Postnatal Overview

We spend so much time anticipating arrival, but what about when baby gets here? While I find a mother who has had the birth she desires incredibly fulfilling, that can not over shadow those precious first days and weeks after you have your baby home. There are so many parts of having a new baby that we can not prepare for, so let us focus on the parts that we can.

Private Lactation Consultations

Includes intake and a private Doula led lactation consultation in your home, virtual lactation support via FaceTime or Skype, as well as anytime encouragement by phone.

During our visit, as a trained lactation aid, I will take a full lactation history and complete a full feeding assessment. This will include helping you evaluate your anatomy, your baby's suck, and assessing milk transfer by weighing your baby before and after feeding.  You and baby will be coached to work together on achieving an optimal and comfortable latch. I will work with you to create a written feeding plan for you and your baby going forward, discuss your own diet and it's effects on milk production, nipple care, answer all your questions and make suggestions based on years of experience and evidence based methods. Your partner is certainly invited to be included to learn how to best support you throughout nursing. My goal in these sessions is to educate, empower, and cultivate your own nursing relationship with your infant to promote optimal nutrition and strengthen bonding.

Night Nurse / Cerftified Postpartum Doula

rebecca palm springs doula

Ask yourself how many hours of sleep did you get before you became pregnant? Generally that falls between six and eight hours.  More? Your body is used to running off of this amount for optimal function. This number is now your daily sleep goal. You have an infant so how do you achieve your sleep goal? You don't get out of bed until you reach it. If that means you are in bed until noon then so be it. If it means you are in bed all day, then do what you have to. I am giving you permission (not that you need it)! I want you to remember that you are healing. Your body needs real rest. Your postpartum routine very well may be that of your baby, You may sleep, eat (feed baby), use the restroom (change or have your significant other change baby's diaper), repeat.  Choosing prenatal care that includes a Night Nurse Service means you will have a night or two where both partners can peacefully rest while their infant is being completely cared for and looked after.

 This service includes:

  • Bathing and grooming of your newborn.

  • Nightly bottle feedings or assisted breastfeeding sessions .

  • If breastfeeding, I prepare you a drink and snack while you feed.

  • Burping, comforting and getting your infant back to bed after each feeding.

  • Comforting between feedings to prolong the gaps of sleep parents receive.

  • Parents will be served breakfast in bed.

  • Light cleaning of the kitchen, general spaces and infant spaces while you sleep.

  • Infants laundry cleansed and folded pretty.

Nutrition Services

The first few days following a delivery can be the hardest on not only you but often times, your loving partner. As they provide comfort, assist in helping with your needs and find their new groove and role as a parent, taking on all meal prep three times or more a day can be an unnecessary additional stressor. This can be avoided completely or alleviated as needed by adding Nutrition Services to your postnatal care. Per your preference, nutrient dense, whole food, plant and protein based meals can be prepared in your home or a pick up order from your favorite local restaurant can easily be dropped to your door. This service can also include grocery trips to stock your home with the food your growing family needs or picking up ingredients to complete your Nutrition Postnatal Service.

We also have a Registered Dietitian in-house that can custom create a meal plan that aligns with your pre and postpartum goals.
